This Old Recipe Box

I have a few items that belonged to my Grandma Vannie. She died when I was 12 but I have a lot of fond memories of her and Grandpa Verlin. I spent the night at their house once a week and I'm so thankful to have had that time with them. My Grandma was a school teacher and Grandpa worked at the local creamery. One thing that my grandparents were devoted to was the church and their love for the Lord. There was many a time where missionaries and workers would come into their home and discuss scriptures, etc... One of the items that I have is an old recipe box that contains a lot of old handwritten recipes. Some of them even say that they are from missionaries. It's very interesting to see how some of them are written and what they are written on... some are written on writing paper, some on envelopes and even a few of them are written on "personal mailing cards" so I thought that I would blog about this today and share with everyone some of the most interesting recipes that I have found.

Whipped Cream Cake (Freezes well)

Sift together:
2 1/4 cup cake flour
3 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup sugar

Whip 1 1/4 cup heavy cream until thick, add sifted dry ingredients, 4 egg whites (1/2 cup) unbeaten and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes until batter is well blended. Pour into well greased and lightly floured 8 in. layer pans at least 1 1/4 in. deep. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. make two layers.

"Grandma's Garden Huckleberry Pie"
1 qt. Garden Huckleberries
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 T. nutmeg
1/4 T. Salt
1 oz. of fresh lemon or lime juice

Let Simmer gently until tender in small amounts of water. Drain if necessary. Add rest of ingredients, mix well and pour into raw pie shell. Dot with butter and add top crust.

(This one doesn't say how long to bake but I'm assuming at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Also suggest using tin foil on the edges of the pie crust to avoid burning.)
There's alot of other recipes for all sorts of stuff including cough syrup and hand lotion. Course those two require ingredients that wouldn't be easy to find and frankly, it would just be easier to go to the store and buy some...
There was a card for Miscellaneous tips. Very Interesting! One of them was this:
Mildew Stain: 2 tablespoons of peroxide to every quart of water and boil will remove most every kind of stain.
