This old toy chest

This is a toy chest that belonged to my father when he was a small boy growing up on a farm in Nebraska. In the 90's, he worked on it and made it into a clock. (Clock making was one of his favorite past times.) Inside this old chest is a piece of paper where my dad wrote about traveling with this "suitcase that probably contained toys" back in 1937. He traveled with his mother to Portland from Nebraska on a train to come out to meet his father and uncle who had moved out west to start farming. I thought about him alot lately and thought about this old chest that I have displayed on a planter shelf. I decided to take a picture of Rylan playing with it. I will have to try to take another photo one of these days when Rylan is more cooperative but none the less, the photo came out ok.

I hope that this is one of the things that I can pass on to Rylan. It's hard knowing that Rylan was not able to meet his Grandpa but maybe some of Grandpa's old things will teach Rylan what kind of man he was.
